Caramel is a buff Orpington hen who hatched in the spring of 2012. She was a family favorite in her original home, where she free ranged and made friends with all the neighbors.
She has a sweet, friendly disposition and runs toward me any time she sees me outside. She’s very tolerant of new additions to the flock, and kind to everyone.
Caramel no longer enjoys sleeping on a high roost, so my husband built her a lower, geriatric roost in the coop instead. She opts to spend most nights in the Hufflepuff nesting box. Despite being over eight years old when she arrived here, Caramel laid several eggs last summer.
